Big News! Central University Admissions Through CUET Only, Class 12 Marks Won’t Be Counted
Students seeking admission to universities will now have to appear for CUET Exam and their Class 12 exam scores will only be used as qualifying criteria.
M Jagsdesh Kumar, UGC Chairman said the central universities will have to use CUCET- Common University Entrance Test marks to admit students to undergraduate programmes from this year and not Class 12 marks.
He said CUET, will most probably be conducted in the first week of July.
University Grants Commissison, UGC, said the application process for undergraduate CUET will commence from the first week of April and will be conducted in 13 languages including Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, Assamese, Bengali, Punjabi, Odia, and English.
"A huge number of Central Universities have confirmed their participation in the CUET - 2022 (PG)," according to the announcement.
Aside from the qualifying criteria of different colleges, Class 12 board examination results will have no influence on student’s admissions to universities. UGC funds 45 core universities (UGC). The CUET syllabus would be aligned with the NCERT's Class 12 model syllabus, according to UGC chairperson M Jagadesh Kumar at a press conference.
The CUET will include Sections 1A and 1B, as well as a general test and domain-specific subjects. Section 1A, which will be mandatory, will be available in 13 languages, and applicants will be able to select their preferred language.
Kumar noted that CUET will provide equal chance to students from all boards, notably those from the northeast and rural areas, when outlining the benefits of the exam. The CUET is expected to save parents and students money because candidates would only have to take one exam.
According to Kumar, public institutions, private universities, and deemed universities can use CUET scores for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions.
Delhi University and a few other universities have already stated that they will only admit CUET-qualified candidates into undergraduate programmes. The NTA website, https://nta.ac.in, has the entire CUET UG structure.
