To bolster agricultural practices and comprehensively educate the farmers about the knowledge and skills necessary for modern rice cultivation, the International Rice Research Institute-South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC) and Bihar Agricultural University (BAU) collaborated to organize a comprehensive three-day training and exposure visit.

The program aimed to enhance farmers' ability to cope with the challenges posed by climate change, reduce post-harvest losses, and increase the value of their crops. Participants were provided with in-depth information on rice varieties suitable for Bihar's climate, quality seed production, and effective farm planning.

Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) Cultivation

Special sessions focused on weed, water, and nutrient management in Direct Seeded Rice (DSR), along with integrated pest and disease management. These sessions equipped farmers with strategies to optimize resources, maximize yields, and combat common rice cultivation challenges.

Exposure to Latest Technologies

Exposure visits to ISARC labs and the Farm Machinery Bank, along with demonstrations of precision agriculture techniques, offered participants valuable insights into the latest technologies and practices. This hands-on exposure aimed to empower farmers to adopt modern approaches and enhance their productivity.

Empowering Farmers for Success

Addressing the closing session, ISARC director Sudhanshu Singh emphasized the significance of the training program. He said that this training program embarks a significant step towards empowering farmers with the tools they need to thrive in a changing climate while ensuring proper yield, income, and profitability.

The participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to attend the training, highlighting the valuable knowledge and skills they gained. With the acquired knowledge and skills, these farmers are now better equipped to face the challenges of modern rice cultivation and contribute to Bihar's agricultural success.
