B.V.R. Subrahmanyam Appointed as New CEO of NITI Aayog
B.V.R. Subrahmanyam was appointed Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog. Subrahmanyam, an Indian Administrative Service Officer of the 1987 batch (Chhattisgarh cadre), has held important positions in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jammu and Kashmir over the last three decades, as well as a stint at The World Bank.
B.V.R. Subrahmanyam has been Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Chief Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir, Principal Secretary, Government of Chhattisgarh, and has held positions in the Prime Minister's Office.
On the occasion of taking over the Government of India's public policy think tank, Subrahmanyam stated, "I am humbled by the Prime Minister's trust and responsibility in me and will do my best to live up to his expectations."
About BVR Subrahmanyam:
Subrahmanyam is an Andhra Pradesh native with an engineering degree and a Chhattisgarh cadre IAS officer from the 1987 batch. In 2018, the officer was appointed Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir. In addition, he holds a management degree from London Business School.
The 56-year-old officer worked as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's private secretary from 2004 to 2008. After working for the World Bank, he returned to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in 2012. Subrahmanyam served in the PMO until 2015, when he returned to Chhattisgarh as a principal secretary and then as an Additional Chief Secretary (Home).
In 2018, the officer was appointed Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir. The state's special status was revoked during his presidency, and it was divided into two union territories. According to the Press Trust of India, Subrahmanyam was among a small group of officers who were aware of the Centre's decision on Jammu and Kashmir before it was made public. He later became the Commerce Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
