The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced strict rules for a change of school for reasons like better education.

In the circular dated 5th April, 2019, CBSE has listed the documents that the parents as well as schools will have to give for direct admissions in Classes X and XII, according to media reports.

New address proof, transfer orders of parents, documents supporting admission on medical grounds will also be required to seek admission.

For the students who are planning to change for ‘better education’, not only would their parents be required to provide the required documents but the schools (both admitting & leaving school) will also have to attach the records of CBSE Board Results of the previous five years.

Schools will also be required to give the qualifications as well as teaching experience to provide comparative proof of the stipulation.

CBSE has pointed out that many students change their schools citing different reasons. Though the board accepts shifting of family & distance as reasons for the shift, it brings to notice reasons such as better education, etc. The board has advised all students that if they wish to do so then it is better to change schools in classes IX and XI instead of class X and XII.

The Board gave the reason for not acknowledging change of schools in 10 and 12 that it starts the registration process for board exams from classes 9 & 11 respectively. The board has to do extra paper work for students who change their schools in class X and XII. Due to this extra paper work sometimes mistakes are made.

Schools and teachers and have highlighted that the stricter guidelines were perhaps needed as many students shift to other school when their previous schools repudiate to promote students because of board examination in classes 10 & 12.

Note - The last date to apply for the change & direct admissions in class X and XII is 15th July, 2019.
