Anganwadi Workers & Helpers

The government has decided to provide an insurance facility to lakhs of Anganwadi workers & helpers during Covid-19 duty. The central government will now provide an insurance cover up to Rs 50 lakh, under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana.

About Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKP)

Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKP) Insurance Scheme for the Health Workers Fighting Covid-19 was launched 3/03/2020. Initially, it was for a period of 90 days to provide comprehensive personal accident cover of Rs 50 lakh to the healthcare providers including community & private health care workers drafted by the government, especially for the care of Covid-19 patients & for those who may have come in direct contact with the Covid affected patients & were at the risk of being impacted by it.

Eligibility Criteria of PMGKP

There are over 13.29 lakh Anganwadi workers & 11.79 lakh helpers across the country & those who are eligible to receive the benefits under PMGKP. The health ministry has issued the detailed guidelines & FAQs that list the eligibility criteria & corresponding benefits. The package covers loss of life due to the Covid-19 related duties.

The scheme has already covered the public healthcare providers including the community health workers, who are involved in outreach & care of Covid patients & who may be at risk of being impacted by the corona pandemic.

According to the officials from Ministry of women & child development, the states have to ensure the implementation & the district authorities have been directed to identify all those among the Anganwadi workers & helpers, who have been involved with the Covid related duties & are therefore eligible for the insurance cover.

The Ministry of Women & Child Development has said that more than 13 lakh Anganwadi workers & more than 11 lakh helpers of the country will be insured for Rs 5- lakh. During Covid pandemic, the Anganwadi & ASHA workers had made their demand for risk allowance & insurance cover while on the corona duty.

As the Anganwadi workers have a very big role in giving impetus to vaccination campaign.

Note – The Anganwadi workers are generally from the rural community, we want to help them by providing such important information.
