Biporjoy cyclone intensifies, IMD says that the monsoon is soon likely to hit Maharashtra in the next 48 hours.
Cyclone Biporjoy Alert: Monsoon is about to hit Maharashtra within the next 48 hours predicts the Indian Meteorological Department. The Southwest monsoon is expected to reach Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Goa because of the favourable weather conditions from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. The monsoon is likely to remain till June 20 says a former IITM scientist.
The monsoon arrived a week later in Kerala than its usual date but after that, the monsoon progressed swiftly because of the favourable weather condition. The monsoon is heading from the west coast as cyclone Biporjoy is active in the Arabian Sea.
IMD officials update about monsoon arrival in Maharashtra
As per the Indian Meteorological Department officials, Monsoon hit states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka on Saturday. As per the media reports, the Head of Climate Research and Services, Pune, KS Hosalikar said that the monsoon has reached certain parts of the central Arabian Sea due to the Biporjoy cyclone.
He additionally added to his statement that due to the favourable weather condition, the monsoon is more likely to hit other parts of the country including Maharashtra within 48 hours.
Cyclone Biporjoy Alert
Rainfall is seen in different parts of Maharashtra and Pune on Sunday night. Due to the increase in Biporjoy Cyclone’s intensity, Mumbai and other coastal areas come across gusty winds. Additionally, the IMD has warned and issued a yellow alert for the areas as several regions of Maharashtra like Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Raigad, and Sindhudurg are witness to receive heavy rainfall.
IMD data shows that India has received 13.9 mm of rain on average, approximately 60.9% below the standard rain. However, a senior climate scientist named Dr M. Rajeevan said farmers can plan to sow seeds after June 20 when the rain starts everywhere.
