Delhi to Come up with Food Truck Policy Soon: Manish Sisodia

On Tuesday, Sisodia held a review meeting with representatives from the relevant departments to focus on the upcoming Delhi shopping festival and the food truck policy.

Delhi government is preparing to roll out a food truck policy in the national capital soon. Manish Sisodia, deputy chief minister on Tuesday said Delhi will be the first in India to introduce a food truck policy on the lines of countries like the UK and the US.

He said the government is in the process of finalizing the areas where food trucks will be permitted to park for the public. On Tuesday, Sisodia held a review meeting with representatives from the relevant departments to focus on the upcoming Delhi shopping festival and the food truck policy. Regarding food trucks, he said that stakeholder consultation with various authorities has already been started.

Although the food truck business is not new to India, the minister said that no state in the nation has adopted any policy to simplify this industry and boost employment prospects in this sector.

"We announced various projects in our Rozgaar Budget that might promote economic growth and generate 20 lakh employment in the next five years. Two of them—the Delhi Shopping Festival and the Food Truck Policy—are top priorities projects that will be launched soon.

The Food Truck Policy will create opportunities for the capital’s night-time economy, "While the shopping festival will be a major opportunity for traders, shopkeepers, the tourism and hospitality industry to increase their business and revenue," he said.

To launch both projects by the date set, Sisodia gave instructions to officials to speed up the preparations.

According to a government statement, the market groups and shopkeepers are quite excited and looking forward to Delhi's inaugural shopping festival. The Delhi Shopping Festival is scheduled to be held from January 28 to February 26, 2023.

The festival, which will take place in all the popular markets, stores, and malls, will provide deals, entertainment, food, and fun for everyone travelling to Delhi at that time.

The festival will also host a grand opening ceremony, a closing ceremony, as well as several other activities. According to the statement, the month-long festival would not only give tourists a distinctive view of Delhi but will also increase the business of the tourism and hospitality sectors by 25%.
