Delhi Weather Update: IMD Issues Red Alert! AQI to Remain ‘Very Poor’ For Next 3 Days

Due to the strong cold wave conditions expected for the next three days, Delhi's air quality will remain in the "very poor" category.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the strong cold wave and worsening air quality will make life miserable for locals for the next three to four days. A red alert has also been issued for Sunday by the weather network.

According to VK Soni, a scientist with the IMD, "the AQI of Delhi-NCR, which had some good air days in recent weeks, would drop back to the "very poor" category in the next three to four days."

With an AQI of 359 on Saturday, Delhi's air quality was classified as "extremely poor." The AQI in Gurugram was 371 and 351 in the area of Delhi University, respectively.

IIT Delhi's AQI was 345, Lodhi Road's was 347, and IGI Terminal 3's was 356.

With an AQI of 433, Noida reported an unhealthy amount of air pollution.

IMD has predicted severe cold wave conditions for regions of North India, including the capital, for the ensuing 24 to 48 hours. On Saturday, Delhi experienced a minimum temperature of 2 degrees Celsius.

According to a meteorological expert at IMD, "the Delhi University's Ridge region recorded a minimum of 1.5 degrees Celsius today, which is the lowest recorded this season."

He added that the temperature in Delhi-NCR is lower than several popular tourist destinations in the sub-Himalayan region due to the extreme cold wave conditions that have been plaguing the area.

“This chilly weather hasn't really been disrupted by the Western disturbance that was predicted to do so. In comparison to Shimla, Manali, and the Western Himalayan region, where the lowest temperature has increased, a vast part of the North Indian belt, including Delhi, North Madhya Pradesh, North Rajasthan, Punjab, and Western Uttar Pradesh, is colder,” he said.
