FAI's Annual Seminar 2021: Kaushik Majumdar Discussed Innovations in Plant Nutrition Management

The Fertlizer Association of India (FAI) is conducting its Annual Seminar 2021 from December 1-3 at the Indian Habitat Centre on the theme “Challenges in Fertilizer and Agriculture” and today is the 2nd day of the Seminar which started at 11:00am.

There will be presentations on economic policies, climate-resilient agriculture, technology progress in fertilizer production, and fertilizer product marketing efficiency.

The Fertiliser Association of India (FAI) is a non-profit, non-trading association that primarily represents fertilizer manufacturers, distributors, importers, equipment creators, research institutes, and input suppliers.

The day was divided into 2 sessions and the topics discussed in the sessions were: Challenges of Indian Fertilizer Sector and Meeting Challenges in Agriculture.

Many prominent speakers were a part of this seminar and shared their valuable thoughts and one of them was Dr. Kaushik Majumdar, the Director of General African Plant Nutrition Institute, Benguerir, Morocco. He mainly discussed the “Innovations in Plant Nutrient Management: Conceptualizing a New Paradigm for Plant Nutrition”.

Kaushik obtained his M.Sc. in Agricultural Chemistry and Soil Science from BCKV University in India. He received his Ph.D. in Soil Mineralogy/Soil Chemistry from Rutgers University in the United States.

Majumdar has worked as a Soil Mineralogist at the Potash Research Institute of India (PRII), and later as the Deputy Director of Eastern India and Bangladesh for the Potash & Phosphate Institute of Canada-India Programme; and as the Director of South Asia Program of the International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI).

Dr. Majumdar has several national and international scientific publications and has produced multiple fertilizer decision support tools, technical bulletins and training aids.

While addressing the audience he Mentioned the Things to keep in mind while Conceptualizing a New Paradigm for Plant Nutrition:

  • Sustainability driven policies and business models

  • Increase nutrient use efficiency and reduce nutrient wastage as it will have environmental consequences

  • Data-driven more precise crop nutrition

  • Nutrient recovery and recycling

  • Reduce losses and recover those that are lost with the help of novel technologies

  • Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture

  • Key points of agriculture is to provide nutritious food

  • Low emission fertilizers

  • Accelerated innovation centers

  • Using data and supplying to others so that the research can be done in easier ways

  • All the stakeholders have to work together to help this to happen
