Kisan Mahapanchayat: Farmers to Continue Protest Until Government Fulfills Their Demands

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha and several farmer groups today gathered at the Jantar Mantar for a ‘mahapanchayat’ under the strict security arrangements made by the Delhi Police.

Farmers from across the nation reached Delhi to participate in the ‘mahapanchayat’ against the Government. Meanwhile, SKM leaders said that at some locations, farmers were stopped from reaching Jantar Mantar. 

The agitating farmers told Krishi Jagran that they will continue protesting unless the government fulfills their demands. It must be noted that the farmers have put forward nine demands in front of the government that includes a law guaranteeing MSP for their produce, cancellation of Electricity Amendment Bill 2022, and withdrawal of the Agnipath scheme. 

Delhi Police had made tight security arrangements across the capital to avoid any unpleasant incidents during the ‘Kisan mahapanchayat’.

According to Information, farmer leader Rakesh Tikat was requested to go back by police officers at the Ghazipur border while he was coming towards Jantar Mantar. When he did not move, he was detained and escorted to Madhu Vihar police station.

Angry Tikait criticized the Centre saying "The government cannot silence the farmers' voice, even with the help of the Delhi Police. It will start a new revolution with this arrest. The fight will go on until the very last breath. won't give up, won't get weary."

He also accused the Centre of oppressing the unemployed, the youth, farmers, and labourers of the country. "The Modi government is bent on the oppression of the unemployed, the youth, farmers, and labourers. Be prepared for a long struggle in the fight for rights. At the behest of the Centre, the Delhi Police did not allow (me) to meet the unemployed youth," he said in another tweet later.

Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gopal Rai condemned Tikait's detention.
