Farmers to Hold Peaceful Tractor March to the Parliament Every Day during Winter Session

Farmer unions opposing the Centre's new agricultural regulations have agreed to hold peaceful tractor marches to Parliament every day during the Winter Session beginning November 29, shortly after their one-year demonstration at the Delhi border ends. The decision was made today by the United Kisan Morcha's nine-member committee, which is an umbrella group of farmer unions. 

To celebrate the one year of the protest against the Centre's three agri-legislations, 500 farmers will march peacefully to Parliament every day during the Winter Session beginning November 29, according to the Samyukta Kisan Morcha on Tuesday.  

As part of the first anniversary of the protest at Delhi's boundaries, the SKM has also called for enormous Maha panchayats in all state capitals on November 26. Farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan would congregate in Delhi's outskirts on that day to participate in the Maha panchayats. 

On November 26, last year, farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh began an indefinite protest against the regulations, which were ultimately halted by the Supreme Court in January, at the Delhi borders.

The SKM, an umbrella body of 40 farmer unions leading the protest, held a meeting at the Singhu border protest site and later announced that it will mark the one-year anniversary of the movement on and after November 26 in a "massive way" across India. 

Rakesh Tikait one of the leaders of the Bhartiya Kisan Union stated that around 750 farmers have perished as a result of protests across the nation “However, there was no expression of condolence from the central government. Farmers in the country believe that PM Modi is not a "farmers' PM," and that farmers are separate from this country " 

Farmers have been protesting at Delhi's borders since November 26 last year in opposition to three farm laws: the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
