Fish Farming Training Programme in Arunachal Pradesh

A three-day training program in Namsai district, Arunachal Pradesh, organized by the National Fisheries Development Board, aimed to enhance fish production by sharing aquaculture expertise with local farmers and officials.

A three-day non-residential training program titled 'Scientific Practices in Fish Farming for Enhancing Fish Production in Arunachal Pradesh' was conducted in Nongkhan village, Namsai district, with the participation of 25 members of the Phaphu Fishermen Producer Company (FPC), fisheries department officials, and progressive fish farmers.

The program, held by the National Fisheries Development Board's Northeast Regional Centre (NERC) in Guwahati, Assam, featured experts from NERC and Joyshil Taba, the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Itanagar.

The primary objective of this training initiative was to share the most up-to-date knowledge and advancements in aquaculture technology and practices tailored to the local conditions, aiming to boost fish and fish seed production in the state.

Ashim Borah, the Officer-in-Charge of NERC, provided an overview of the current state of fisheries and aquaculture in Arunachal Pradesh.

Kamal Roy, a representative from NABARD, highlighted the significance of aquaculture in ensuring food security, especially for economically marginalized populations, and as a means of reducing poverty in rural areas. He also introduced the "special kisan credit card campaign" and encouraged farmers to take advantage of this opportunity.

D Bhattacharjee, an official from the Assistant Director of Fisheries, informed the participants about various schemes being implemented in the state and pledged support to the fisheries department in all endeavours aimed at increasing fish and fish seed production in Arunachal Pradesh.
