FLIPKART, a local e-commerce marketplace, announced on Friday that it is expanding its grocery service to Tamil Nadu and Kerala to provide customers with daily necessities and ensure home delivery. According to a company statement, consumers in Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli and Erode in Tamil Nadu and Ernakulam in Kerala will have access to high-quality groceries.

A grocery centre in Coimbatore has created more than 1,100 jobs and given local suppliers access to larger markets in addition to strengthening business links for local farmers.

Grocery is a regionally indexed category, and our focus was not only to bring the highest quality national brands to the consumer's gateway, but also to build local procurement capabilities to serve the needs of local consumers of the best local choices.”

N Muruganandam, Principal Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Industries Department, said the government is working to stimulate investment in logistics and warehousing. He also added “The grocery fulfillment center will allow local merchants to use the infrastructure and increase access to the market.”

Managing director of Tamil Nadu Guidance Pooja Kulkarni said, "The grocery fulfillment center will contribute to the economic growth of the local ecosystem. Since Tamil Nadu is the most urbanized state, it will give a bigger impetus to Flipkart's e-commerce business. "

About Flipkart

Flipkart, the company that redefined shopping in India, is working on B2C (business model for consumers).  Flipkart started with selling books and other products directly to consumers, before moving to a marketplace model that connects sellers and buyers and expands its portfolio.

Today, it sells everything from smartphones to clothing, furniture, refrigerators to FMCG goods, and of-course book too!

Flipkart claims to have lakhs of sellers from all over India who list their products in more than 80 categories. Ordinary consumers may not care who the seller is and have a relationship with Flipkart, and sellers who have not contacted customers at all can now contact them through the Flipkart platform. To facilitate this transaction and fulfill your order, Flipkart charges various percentages as a commission fee from the sellers.
