Food Processing Minister Launches 6 Brands Under ‘One District-One Product’

The Food Processing Ministry had inked an agreement with NAFED for developing 10 brands as the One District One Product brands under the Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme.

Pashupati Kumar Paras, Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, unveiled six brands, including Kashmiri chilli, as part of the 'One District-One Product' (ODOP) strategy under a central scheme PMFMES on Wednesday. 

These six brands are among 10 that the ministry has contracted with cooperative NAFED for branding and marketing of ODOPs as part of the Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PMFMES). 

The central scheme PMFMES seeks to offer financial, technical, and business assistance for the up gradation/ establishment of two lakh micro food processing units based on the ODOP method during a five-year period from 2020-21 to 2024-25, with a budget of Rs.10,000 crore. 

Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, was also present during the launch. 

According to a release, six brands will be available in selected areas throughout Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Jammu & Kashmir. 

Amrit Phal, Cori Gold, Kashmiri Mantra, Madhu Mantra, Somdana, and Dilli Bakes' Whole Wheat Cookies are among the six new brands. 

Amrit Phal, an amla juice brand, was developed exclusively for Gurugram, Haryana, using the ODOP concept. The product contains pure amla juice and is a natural elixir with lemon added for a distinct taste and health benefits. The 500 ml bottle is priced competitively at Rs.120. 

The Cori Gold brand was introduced for coriander powder, which is the recognized ODOP for Kota, Rajasthan.

The product has a distinct flavor and is a regional specialty. The 100-gram pack is priced competitively at Rs.34. 

Kashmiri Mantra captures the essence of Kulgam, Jammu & Kashmir's spices. The Kashmiri Lal Mirch product was made as part of the ODOP component for spices in Jammu and Kashmir. The product has a particular flavor and is priced at Rs.75 for a 100 g pack. 

The Madhu Mantra brand was established using the ODOP principle for honey from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The multi flora honey was obtained by free-range bees, and the 500-gram glass bottle is reasonably priced at Rs.185. 

The second product developed under the Dilli Bakes brand is whole wheat cookies. The bakery ODOP approach was used to establish both the brand and the product for Delhi. The whole wheat cookie, according to NAFED, is a unique product since it is prepared with whole wheat, jaggery instead of sugar, and butter instead of vanaspati. The 380-gram pack is priced reasonably at Rs 175. 

The brand Somdana was created using the ODOP principle of millets from Thane, Maharashtra. Ragi flour is a unique product since it is gluten-free and high in iron, fibre, and calcium. The 500-gram pack costs Rs.60. 

According to NAFED, all the products comes in distinctive and attractive packaging that keeps moisture and sunlight at bay, providing a long shelf life of the product and keeping it fresh. 

A release said, each product was developed based on NAFED's comprehensive knowledge and legacy of marketing skills, as well as its capabilities and experience in processing, packaging, supply, and logistics. 

All the products will be accessible at NAFED Bazaars, e-commerce platforms, and well-known retail outlets across India.
