Fourth Farmer’s Protest: Kisaan Mukti March

Farmers from across the country-reportedly attached with more than 200 organisations arrived at Nizamuddin railway station, Delhi on Wednesday (28 November 2018). They had come to start the fourth farmer’s protest in the national capital. On Thursday (29 November) morning they started their march from different points at the periphery of New Delhi towards the heart of the Capital. 

Farmers had started their preparations from Wednesday night and started gathering at defined places. The two days protest is led by All India Kisan Sangarsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) and will commence from Ramlila Grounds demanding a farm loan waiver and guaranteed price for farm produce. This is the fourth farmers’ protest in Delhi in the last one and a half year.

Farmers have gathered from all over India including states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala etc. According to Joint secretary of All India Kisan Sabha, Vijoo Krishnan “A train full of farmers mostly from southern India reached Nizamuddin railway station at 4 in the morning,” The whole idea behind the protest is to initiate the discussion on ,agrarian crisis in a 21-day joint parliament session. It has been planned that those farmers from western state of Rajasthan would gather at the outskirts of Delhi Bijwasan and others coming in from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal will first gather at Anand Vihar railway station. Farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh gathered at Delhi’s Kishanganj sabji mandi.  

The convener of farmer’s protest VM Singh reported that government takes farmers seriously only when elections are near, the reason for aggressive nature of farmers to fulfill their demands.
