FSSAI Issues Spot Memo After Complaints of Unhygienic Practices at Bangalore Dominos
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has issued a spot memo to Food Business Operators seeking an explanation regarding unhygienic food handling practices of outlets.
After receiving complaints about potentially unhygienic procedures being used at a Domino's shop in Bengaluru, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a spot memo to food business operators.
A response to the "unhygienic food handling practices of outlet stated in the complaint" is requested in the spot note.
On the basis of inspection observations, improvement notices were also sent, requiring compliance within 15 days.
After receiving the explanation, the Designated Officer (State Licensing), Bangalore Urban District, will take the required action in accordance with the terms of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act.
Two images that recently went viral online showed trays of pre-made pizza dough stacked on the floor of a Domino's kitchen with mops hanging over the trays, causing outrage and frightening Twitter users.
Meanwhile, Domino's released a formal statement. "We adhere to stringent world-class protocols for ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and food safety. We have zero tolerance for violations of these operating standards. The incident brought to our notice will be thoroughly investigated and basis the findings," said the pizza joint.
