GADVASU conducts training on ‘surgical skill enhancement for animals’

 The Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is conducting a training programme on “Enhancing core and advanced competency skills in veterinary surgery, diagnostic imaging and anaesthesia” for the faculty from all over India from 11 September to 1 October 2018. The 21-day training program is sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. Dr. J. Mohindroo, Professor-cum-Head and Director of this training program informed that the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology is serving as Centre of Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT), ICAR since 1994. Till date the department has successfully organized 30 such advanced training courses and has trained more than 400 faculty members and surgeons from all over India. He further informed that a total of 55 applications were received for the training out of which 24 faculty from to 12 states and 18 institutions were selected. 

The training kicked off with an inaugural ceremony chaired by Dr S.K.Uppal, Dean Post Graduate Studies and Nodal Officer for CAFT trainings. Dr.  P. S. Brar, Dean College of Veterinary Science and Dr. S. S. Singh, Ex-Dean PGS and Superintendent of Small Animal Multi Specialty Hospital were the guest of honour at the inaugural function. Dr Uppal appraised the participants about the facilities provided in the Department in particular and the university in general and applauded the hard work put in by the faculty for organizing this event.  

Dr. Arun Anand and Ashwani Kumar, the co-coordinators of this training program, told that the module of training program has been meticulously designed to enhance the basic and advanced competency skills of young participating scientists on surgical, diagnostic imaging and anaesthetic techniques used for a variety of animals such as horses, cows, buffaloes, dogs, cats and wild animals. Besides this advanced techniques like endoscopic, theloscopic and arthroscopic surgery, phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation, corneal grafting, LASER, Doppler, CT, minimally invasive osteosynthesis, general anaesthesia and positive pressure ventilation will also be discussed. Moreover hands on training will be imparted to the participants.
