The 74th Republic Day celebrations took place on the revamped Central Vista avenue, the first at the ceremonial boulevard after Rajpath was renamed to Kartavya Path last year.

From Kartavya Path, President Droupadi Murmu led the country in celebrating the 74th Republic Day, with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi serving as the parade's chief guest.

The iconic freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose was born on January 23, which is now recognized as Parakram Diwas. The weeklong festivities will culminate on January 30, which is recognized as Martyrs' Day.

According to the ministry of defense, the Republic Day parade was a special blend of India's military power and cultural variety, portraying the nation's expanding indigenous capabilities, Nari Shakti, and the development of a "New India." The parade on the Kartavya Path had a total of 23 tableaux, including 17 from states and union territories and six from other ministries and departments, all of which showcased India's rich cultural legacy, economic development, and social advancement.

The redesigned Kartavya Path was lined with vibrant tableaux from Assam, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gujarat, West Bengal, and several more states and Union Territories, with "Nari Shakti" serving as the theme for the majority of the floats.

Breath-taking air show over Kartavya Path

The Fly Past, the parade's big finale and the most anticipated part, featured an incredible air show by 45 Indian Air Force aircraft, one from the Indian Navy, and four Indian Army helicopters.

Parade at Kartavya Path ended with national anthem

The national anthem concluded the Republic Day parade at Kartavaya Path. However, the festivities will go on and conclude on January 30, also known as Martyrs' Day. President Droupadi Murmu and Chief Guest of the Republic Day Parade, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, went to Rashtrapati Bhavan while being escorted by the President's Bodyguard.

Some more things that happened for the first time:

  • An Egyptian leader was invited to the Republic Day ceremonies as the chief guest for the first time. On Tuesday, PM Modi and Egyptian President El-Sisi had one-on-one discussions. With this, the Egyptian army participated in the Republic Day parade for the first time this year.

  • For the first time, agniveers participated in the parade.

  • President Droupadi Murmu celebrated Republic Day for the first time since assuming office. The President honoured the culture of her home state by wearing an Odisha silk saree with a temple border on Republic Day.

  • The Border Security Forces' camel contingent featured the first-ever female riders. Those 12 female riders included Sonal, Nisha, Bhagwati, Ambika, Kusum, Priyanka, Kaushalya, Kajal, Bhawna, and Hina.

  • CRPF's all-female "Peacekeepers of the Nation" unit, under the command of Assistant Commandant Poonam Gupta. The Force holds the distinction of having established the first female-only police battalion in history.

  • In this year's Republic Day parade, the Narcotics Control Bureau created a tableau to fight addiction for the first time.

  • For the first time, the 35-member Delhi Police Women Pipe Band took part in the march.
