The Haryana government, led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, has taken significant steps to alleviate the hardships caused by the recent heavy downpour in the state. As per the latest announcement made on Wednesday, the government has set a compensation rate of Rs 15,000 per acre for farmers whose crops have been damaged due to the floods.

Additionally, the families of the victims who lost their lives in the calamity will receive Rs 4 lakh each as compensation. The torrential rains had a severe impact on several districts of both Punjab and Haryana, causing widespread flooding and disrupting daily life for many citizens. Chief Minister Khattar informed the press that 35 people lost their lives during this rainfall spell.

In light of the devastating situation, the state government has declared 12 districts as flood-affected, including Panchkula, Ambala, Karnal, Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Panipat, Sonipat, Sirsa, and Yamunanagar.

To handle the relief and rescue operations efficiently, the authorities enlisted the support of the National Disaster Response Force and the Indian Army. Together, they have worked tirelessly to assist affected communities and provide them with the necessary aid.

Chief Minister Khattar disclosed that 6,629 individuals were taken to 41 relief camps for temporary shelter during the floods. While some have returned to their homes, around 1,774 people are still residing in these camps as they await more stable conditions.

The agricultural sector experienced significant losses due to the heavy rainfall. Chief Minister Khattar highlighted that crops on more than 18,000 acres of land have been completely damaged. To assist the affected farmers, the government has decided to provide compensation of Rs 15,000 per acre for 100% crop damage. In an effort to aid recovery, farmers can re-sow paddy crops on lands from which the water has receded before July 31.

Apart from the impact on agriculture, the floods also wreaked havoc on infrastructure. A staggering 1,142 kilometers of roads and 3,369 electric poles, along with 1,470 transformers, have been damaged. Repairing the infrastructure will require an estimated budget of Rs 230 crore.
