Heatwave Alert: Dry Spells to Continue in Northwest India While Severe Thunderstorms and Rain in These States
According to the IMD's meteorological report, maximum temperatures are unlikely to change significantly over northwest and central India during the next two days but will decline by two to four degrees Celsius over the next three days.
According to the IMD, heatwave conditions will continue for the next two days in the northwest and central portions of the country before subsiding. During the next 48 hours, the southwest monsoon is expected to move into the south Andaman Sea, the Nicobar Islands, and the southeast Bay of Bengal.

Rainfall Predictions:
On Sunday, scattered rains or thunderstorms are likely throughout Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh due to a new Western Disturbance. "Rainfall activity expected to increase with scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall, thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds, and hail very likely over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on the 16th and 17th May," according to the IMD.
On the 16th and 17th of May, isolated light rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning are expected throughout north Punjab and east Uttar Pradesh. Dust storms or thunderstorms are expected in scattered areas in Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan on May 16. On Sunday, dust-raising winds with gusts of 30-40 kph are expected in isolated areas across north Rajasthan.
During the next 48 hours, the Southwest Monsoon is expected to move into the south Andaman Sea, the Nicobar Islands, and the southeast Bay of Bengal, according to the weather service.
Widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is quite possible over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands over the next five days due to a strong cross-equatorial flow from the Bay of Bengal to the Andaman Sea in lower tropospheric levels. During the 15th and 17th of May, squally weather with winds gusting to 60 mph is predicted across the south Andaman Sea.
Rainfall is expected across Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim over the next five days, according to the IMD. Until May 17, isolated to scattered rainfall with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha.
Over Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry-Karaikal, Coastal, and South Interior Karnataka, and Lakshadweep, the MeT department predicted widespread to widespread rains with isolated thunderstorms/lightning/gusty winds until May 16. Meanwhile, through May 17, isolated to scattered rainfall with isolated thunderstorms or lightning is extremely likely over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, North Interior Karnataka, and Rayalseema.
