HP Governor Calls for Stricter Regulations to Combat Climate Change Impact

In a recent address at the 'North Zone Environment Workshop,' Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla emphasized the urgent need for stricter regulations to promote sustainable development and the adoption of cleaner technologies in order to mitigate the effects of climate change.  

Shukla expressed concern over the unbalanced state of the environment in Western countries, stating that it is affecting the entire world. He highlighted India's comparatively lower carbon emissions and stressed the importance of preserving the country's green cover.

Governor Shukla attributed the deteriorating environmental balance in the northern region of India to rapid urbanization, industrialization, population growth, and uncontrolled human activities. Climate change has emerged as a global concern affecting everyone, and it is crucial to address issues such as air pollution and water scarcity.

The pollution, overuse, and encroachment of water sources for major rivers in the northern region pose a significant threat. To ensure a sustainable water supply for future generations, Shukla emphasized the importance of rainwater harvesting, wastewater treatment, and community awareness campaigns.

Furthermore, Shukla underscored the significance of safeguarding fragile ecosystems and biodiversity in the northern region. He called for the prioritization of habitat conservation for endangered wildlife species and discouraged activities such as deforestation, illegal wildlife trade, and habitat destruction. Raising awareness about climate change, promoting sustainable practices, and supporting renewable energy sources were identified as key measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Rakesh Pandit, the National President of Arogya Bharti, also addressed the workshop and emphasized the importance of environmental protection in everyone's lives. He noted that despite the cultural and traditional awareness of environmental preservation, one-sided development has led to deforestation, urbanization, industrialization, and excessive use of plastic, all of which have had adverse effects on the environment.

The speeches by Governor Shukla and Rakesh Pandit at the 'North Zone Environment Workshop' highlighted the pressing need for stricter regulations and concerted efforts to combat climate change, preserve the environment, and ensure sustainable development in the northern region of India.
