The ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute & Allied Fibres (ICAR-CRIJAF), Barrackpore, took a significant step towards enhancing agricultural practices by signing a Technology License Agreement (TLA) with M/s Creative Displayers, Barrackpore, Kolkata, West Bengal. This agreement grants a non-exclusive license for the next five years to manufacture, market, and sell the innovative "Nail Weeder," a farm tool developed by ICAR-CRIJAF.

The Nail Weeder is specifically designed for dry land weeding in orchards, gardens, and vegetable farms. This tool allows farmers to plant crops more closely by maintaining minimal space between rows, requiring only enough room for an adult to walk through while still efficiently removing weeds. The design makes it ideal for small-scale and marginal farmers, who often struggle with weed management using traditional methods.

At the agreement signing ceremony, Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director of ICAR-CRIJAF, highlighted the importance of modern farm machinery in improving the cultivation practices of jute and allied fiber crops. He highlighted that the Nail Weeder, with its advanced features, will not only enhance sustainability but also boost farmers' income, especially under unpredictable climatic conditions. Dr. Kar reiterated the significance of such innovative tools for small and marginal farmers, who will greatly benefit from improved weed control.

Sanjib Biswas, Managing Partner of M/s Creative Displayers, signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) alongside Dr. Kar, aimed at bringing this technology to the agricultural market. This collaboration is expected to play a vital role in modernizing agricultural practices and improving the livelihoods of farmers across West Bengal and beyond.
