ICAR-IARI Marks Agricultural Education Day with Notable Lecture by Dr. R.S. Paroda

Dr. R.S. Paroda also discussed how innovative thinking and skill development in agriculture could address challenges like climate change and ensure food security, aligning with the National Education Policy-2020's emphasis on quality education.

The Graduate School at ICAR-IARI, New Delhi, organized a special lecture to commemorate Agricultural Education Day, celebrating the birthday of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India's first Union Minister of Agriculture and the inaugural President of independent India. Dr RS Paroda, Former Secretary (DARE) & DG, ICAR and Chairperson, TAAS, New Delhi, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Prof. R.B. Singh, Former President of NAAS and Former Director of ICAR-IARI, New Delhi, leading the proceedings. The program, attended by Dr A K Singh (Director-IARI), Dr Anupama Singh (Joint Director-Edn & Dean), Dr. C. Viswanatha (Joint Director, Research), Dr R N Padaria (Joint Director, Extension), Heads, Professors, and students of ICAR-IARI, New Delhi, commenced with a floral tribute to Dr. Rajendra Prasad and the lighting of a lamp.

Dr. A.K. Singh welcomed the esteemed guests, and Prof. R.B. Singh introduced Dr R.S. Paroda, acknowledging his distinguished contributions to Indian Agriculture. In his lecture on ‘Opportunities in Agriculture,’ Dr. R.S. Paroda highlighted IARI's crucial role in ushering in the Green Revolution in India.

He praised the Council for fostering a series of revolutions, including the rainbow revolution, and urged scientists to focus on natural resource management alongside genetic solutions. Emphasizing the need for innovative approaches and tools for genetic improvements and input use efficiencies, he drew attention to India's youthful population and their potential to significantly contribute to the agricultural sector.

As part of the celebration, an inter-school painting competition saw the participation of 60 students, with Dr R S Paroda presenting awards and certificates to the winners. Students from various IARI hubs and IARI, New Delhi, engaged with Dr. R S Paroda and Prof. R.B. Singh, seeking their insightful guidance.

The program concluded with closing remarks from Prof. R.B. Singh and a vote of thanks from Dr. Anupama Singh, Dean of the Graduate School at ICAR-IARI, New Delhi. This insightful event offered online and offline learning opportunities to attendees across various IARI hubs.
