ICAR Organises Walkathon 2025 to Promote Fitness and Agricultural Progress

ICAR organized the Walkathon 2025 under the Fit India Movement, promoting health and wellness. The event highlighted ICAR's contributions to agricultural research and its commitment to shaping India's agrarian future.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) recently hosted the Walkathon 2025, a key event under the Fit India Movement aimed at promoting health and wellness nationwide. The initiative attracted widespread participation and underscored the value of physical fitness in daily life.

Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) and Director General of ICAR, addressed the attendees by highlighting the significant achievements of the institution in 2024, as well as its continued contributions to agricultural research and development. He emphasized the importance of agriculture as the backbone of India, supporting 40-45% of the population.

Looking ahead, Dr. Pathak stressed the need for reforms in agricultural research, education, and extension to meet the evolving needs of farmers and ensure sustainability in the sector, which is crucial for the livelihoods of millions.

Sanjay Garg, Additional Secretary (DARE) and Secretary (ICAR), highlighted ICAR's pivotal role in advancing best practices in agriculture, contributing to the nation’s agrarian progress. He reaffirmed ICAR’s commitment to shaping the future of agriculture at both national and global levels.

Commending ICAR's ongoing efforts, Alka Nangia Arora, Additional Secretary (DARE) and Financial Advisor (ICAR), praised the innovations spearheaded by its institutes, particularly the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI). She noted their significant contributions to agricultural research and innovation.

Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director of ICAR-IARI, detailed recent advancements and initiatives undertaken by the institute to further agricultural science and technology. 

The event concluded with the release of the ICAR Telephone Directory 2025, developed by the ICAR-Directorate of Knowledge Management in Agriculture. Senior officials, including DDGs, ADGs, and directors from Delhi-based ICAR institutes, were also present at the event.
