IGNOU, ICMAI Launch New Diploma in Agricultural Cost Management
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) have partnered to offer new program Diploma in Agricultural Cost Management (DACM), which aims to provide students with the necessary skills for effective agriculture cost management and increased agricultural productivity.
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) School of Agriculture has launched a new educational program Diploma in Agricultural Cost Management (DACM). This program, developed in collaboration with the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI), aims to equip individuals with essential skills for the agricultural sector. The program is set to cover a broad spectrum of roles, from farm management to entrepreneurship and organizational leadership.
Earlier this year, an MoU was signed between IGNOU and ICMAI, formalizing the partnership for this comprehensive educational program. The DACM program is specifically designed to target both urban and rural youth who have completed their 10+2 education in any discipline. The curriculum includes crucial topics such as farm accounting, costing, agri-supply chain management, land use, and water management. The primary goal of the course is to educate learners on effective farm cost management and to enhance agricultural productivity.
Applications are now being accepted for the diploma program's July 2024 intake. Interested candidates can apply online via the official IGNOU admission portal at ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in. The course is available to students who have cleared their Class 12 or equivalent examinations, and its duration ranges from one to three years, providing flexibility to accommodate various learning paces and schedules.
The Management program aims to create awareness and build human resources in the area of agricultural cost management by imparting knowledge, skills, and entrepreneurial capabilities. The program is expected to be particularly beneficial for progressive farmers, urban and rural youth, small and medium entrepreneurs, extension workers, NGO functionaries, members of cooperative societies, and self-help groups.
The program aims to achieve several key objectives, including teaching strategies for the efficient use of resources to ensure optimal resource utilization. It focuses on developing the practical skills necessary for effective farm cost management. Additionally, the program fosters entrepreneurial abilities to empower individuals to manage agricultural enterprises successfully.
Students will gain insights into strategic decision-making related to agricultural production, crop cultivation, livestock rearing, financial planning, resource allocation, marketing, and risk mitigation.
A wide number of courses are available in the DACM program, all of which are intended to give students a broad understanding of agricultural cost management. These include foundational knowledge in agricultural principles and practices, insights into organizations that support agricultural development, and essential concepts and techniques in cost management. The program also focuses on managing costs within farm operations, empowering students to create and manage agricultural ventures through agripreneurship, and emphasizing effective leadership and coordination within farmers' producer organizations.
