IMD Issues ‘Heavy Rainfall’ Alert in Maharashtra and Gujarat Coast Line
The weather department has issued ‘heavy rainfall’ alert in north Maharashtra and south Gujarat coasts in its morning bulletin and asked the natives to stay indoors.

As per IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) Report, “A Low-Pressure area lies over east-central and adjoining northeast the Arabian Sea off north Maharashtra-south Gujarat coasts with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked and concentrate into a Depression during next 24 hours. An east-west shear zone runs roughly along latitude 18°N across central parts of peninsular India between 0.9 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height.”
At many places over J&K, Himachal Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh and western part of India including Konkan & Goa, Andaman & Nicobar Islands witnessed heavy rainfall yesterday.
On the other hand, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, North-Eastern region, Odisha, Chhattisgarh witnessed heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm. Coming to Southern part, heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm lashed in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Kerala, Mahe, Rayalaseema, and Vidarbha region.
As reported, maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. On the other hand, isolated places over West Bengal, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh have recorded above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Bihar and Jharkhand, West Rajasthan, Saurashtra & Kutch, and Odisha. Isolated places over Himachal Pradesh has recorded below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C).
Since yesterday, all schools and junior colleges in Mumbai and neighboring areas were closed after the weather office forecast "extremely heavy rainfall" over the next 48 hours. Mumbai has received heavy rain this monsoon, leading to delayed flights, traffic jams and flooding of homes.
