IMD Issues Orange Alert, Warns Fishermen; Check State-Wise Weather Updates

The IMD said that within the next two days, conditions would become favourable for the Southwest Monsoon winds to recede.

Lower tropospheric levels over the central and southern parts of Uttar Pradesh have cyclonic circulation.

The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) in its latest bulletin has warned of extremely heavy rainfall across Odisha from September 20 to 22 as well as over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and in Yanam today.

The prediction comes as the eastern states prepare for a series of activities that will last throughout the entire month of October. The Southwest Monsoon winds will begin to decrease during the following two days, as the IMD had predicted on Sunday.

Additionally, the meteorological service forecasted severe rains in Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh through September 21 as well as in Vidarbha and East Madhya Pradesh from September 20 to 22.

Key Predictions

  • Over Odisha and Chhattisgarh from September 20 to September 21, over Jharkhand on September 20, over Gangetic West Bengal on September 20, over Vidarbha on September 21 and 22, and over East Madhya Pradesh from September 20 to September 23, moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are all very likely to occur.

  • On September 22 and 23, West Madhya Pradesh, the Marathawada region, the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, and the north Konkan may have similar weather conditions.

  • For the period of September 20 –21, very heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha.

  • On September 20–21, Telangana is expected to have heavy rains, thunderstorms, and lightning over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.

  • Lower tropospheric levels over the central and southern parts of Uttar Pradesh have cyclonic circulation.

  • Widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls & thunderstorm/lightning is very likely over Uttarakhand on 20.

Warning for Fishermen

On September 20, 2022, squally weather (wind speed 40–45 kmph with gusts to 55 kmph) is extremely possible across the central Bay of Bengal bordering the northwest, the west-central, the northeast, and along & off the northern shores of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal.
