Parts of NCR witnessed heavy rainfall throughout Thursday and earlier in the week. Yellow alert issued for Friday.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR after continuous rainfall in the capital since Thursday. The national capital is expected to see rain on the weekend too.

Furthermore, schools (upto class 8) will be shut down in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Gurugram and private and corporate offices have also been asked to work from home due to heavy rain. The order has been issued following an alert issued by the weather department warning about the heavy rainfall.

According to reports, the rain severely slowed down traffic in a number of Delhi districts, trapping the commuters in long traffic lines at important junctions like the ITO junction among others.

The Delhi Traffic Police took to Twitter to inform the commuters of the current traffic situation. The tweet read, "Traffic is affected in the carriageway from Mahipal Pur Red Light towards Mehrauli due to waterlogging. Traffic is affected on Phirni Road and Tooda Mandi Red Light, Najafgarh due to waterlogging".

Along with traffic, the low-lying areas were affected by water logging. Reportedly, several calls regarding the traffic jam were received from various areas. After the continuous rain, severe water logging was witnessed in several parts of Gurugram as well.
