IMD Predicts Another Hit Of Heatwaves Over THESE States

In the coming days, a new heatwave will hit several districts of northwest India. A heatwave that began in northwest India on April 16 is expected to spread to central India on Sunday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to the MeT department, maximum temperatures in northwest India would rise by two to three degrees during the following three days before falling. Similarly, maximum temperatures in central India will rise by two to three degrees over the following four to five days.

On April 17, the IMD forecasted a heatwave in scattered pockets in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan. The weather agency predicts that heatwave temperatures will worsen to severe heatwave conditions in isolated pockets across the same region, on April 18 and 19. A new Western Disturbance is likely to hit northwest India on April 18th night. "Under its influence, light isolated/scattered rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorm/lightning highly possible over Western Himalayan Region on 19th & 20th April 2022 and over Punjab on 20th April 2022," the MeT department tweeted.

"Heatwave conditions in isolated pockets also likely to prevail over Himachal Pradesh and Jammu Division during 16th-18th; over Uttar Pradesh & Vidarbha during 18th-20th; over Gangetic West Bengal on 16th & 17th; and over Bihar, Jharkhand & Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim on 16th April 2022," according to the IMD's weather forecast.

Meanwhile, on April 17 and 18, heatwave conditions in isolated pockets are quite likely to prevail over Madhya Pradesh. On April 19 and 20, it will spread spatially to some areas of the same region.

During the next four to five days, the IMD predicts heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. On April 17, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam-Meghalaya.

In the coming days, rainfall is also expected in the southern states. According to the IMD, the rain will be scattered to fairly widespread throughout Kerala-Mahe and Karnataka over the next five days, along with thunderstorms and lightning.

Meanwhile, through April 21, isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning are expected across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry-Karaikal, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
