IMD Predicts Rainfall In Delhi & Neighboring Regions From 21st to 23rd Jan; Severe Cold in UP, Bihar

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted light to moderate rainfall and extreme cold conditions over the next three to four days in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. 

Rain is expected throughout the western Himalayan region from 21st to 23rd of January, according to the weather forecast. 

On the 22nd of January, heavy rain and snowfall are very likely over Himachal Pradesh. Rain is also expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, north Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh from 21st to 23rd of January, with the maximum severity on the 22^nd of January .  

According to IMD, thunderstorm with lightning is also quite probable over the region on January 22nd. 

The weather department has predicted rain in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from 20th to 22nd of January. 

During the next two days, the IMD predicts dense to extremely dense fog across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. 

According to the department, cold day to severe cold day conditions are predicted over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar over the next three days; cold day conditions in some parts of north Madhya Pradesh over the next 2 days and cold day conditions over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and north Rajasthan over the next 24 hours, which will then abate. 

The maximum and minimum temperatures on Tuesday were 17 and 8.5 degrees Celsius, respectively, while the relative humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 90%. Since January 13, Delhi has been hit by a cold wave for five days in a row. 

According to the weather department, there was a layer of moderate fog/low cloud over Delhi NCR during this time period, preventing sunlight from reaching the surface. 

Meanwhile, Delhi’s AQI continues to hover in the ‘very poor’ category by settling at 319, as per the SAFAR estimates. The level of both PM 2.5 and PM 10 pollutants stood in the ‘very poor’ and ‘poor’ categories, respectively. 

"Today, air quality is expected to improve marginally but remain in the 'poor' category. The air quality is expected to continue in the 'very bad' category on January 20," according to the weather forecast.
