The first heatwave lasted between March 11 and 21, while the second began on March 26 and is still ongoing.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday that for April, similar above-normal maximum temperatures are likely to be recorded in most parts of northwest and central India, as well as some parts of northeast India, based on the second heatwave that is still affecting large parts of northwest and central India.

The IMD predicts normal to below-normal maximum temperatures in the remaining areas of the country, as well as above-normal minimum temperatures in most parts of northwest, central, and northeast India, and normal to below-normal temperatures in most sections of the northwest, central, and northeast India.

Presenting the April Temperature and Rainfall Outlook, IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra stated that normal to below normal minimum temperatures are predicted over south peninsular India, eastern parts of central India, and the extreme southern part of northeast India.

The first heatwave lasted between March 11 and 21, while the second began on March 26 and is still ongoing.

In the meantime, practically all of India received insufficient rainfall in March, with the exception of coastal peninsular districts.

According to the IMD, the average rainfall in April across the country is most expected to be normal (89-111 percent of Long Period Average).

Most of the northwest and central India, as well as certain sections of northeast India, are expected to get below-average rainfall.

Rainfall will be average to above normal in several sections of the south peninsula, as well as neighboring areas of west-central India and some.
