IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall in These States Amid Navratri Celebrations

Navratri celebrations were dampened by heavy rainfall in many parts of southern West Bengal, including Kolkata where Durga Puja is celebrated on a large scale with the finest pandals.

The fourth day of Durga Puja celebrations, Saptami, was also marred by torrential rain, which seemed to put a stop to the festive spirit.

IMD has forecasted heavy rainfall during the remaining three days of the festival. In addition, the southern region of Bengal is expected to have moderate to heavy rainfall during the next three days. Heavy rainfall may obstruct the Navratri celebrations.

IMD forecast during Navratri

• South Bengal may have moderate to heavy rains in several areas

• IMD has predicted heavy rainfall during the period in the districts of Purba and Paschim Medinipur, South and North 24 Parganas, and Birbhum.

• People in Kolkata may experience cloudy weather with a few spells of mild to moderate rain, although Kolkata may be spared from severe rainfall.

• Over the next two days, there will be light to moderate rainfall across a large portion of Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar.

• Until October 6th, Bengal's neighbour Odisha may receive isolated heavy rainfall.

• "Northeastern Bay of Bengal is covered by cyclonic circulation that rises 5.8 km above sea level. South Bengal would likely get isolated rainfall over the next three days as a result of this system " an IMD spokesperson told PTI.

IMD tweeted that “Heavy rainfall spell is likely to start over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh from 6th October for subsequent 2 to 3 days. Also, heavy rainfall is expected over most parts of east and northeast India in next 3 to 4 days. "

Andhra, Karnataka & Telangana may also witness moderate to isolated heavy rainfall during the next 2 to 3 days.
