IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall, Severe Heatwave in These States from 11 April
In a tweet, the IMD said, "As a result, the intensity and distribution of the heatwave conditions over the plains of Northwest India are very likely to decline starting April 12."
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains across many states, which could provide much-needed relief from the sweltering heat in northern India. According to the weather agency, a new western disturbance is expected to hit the western Himalayan region on the night of April 12 and cause maximum temperatures in many parts of northwest India to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius.
Rainfall forecast in India:
"As a result, from April 12 onwards, the intensity and distribution of the heatwave conditions over the plains of Northwest India are quite likely to decrease," the IMD wrote in a tweet. Rainfall is expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next five days.
On April 11, 13, and 14, heavy rain is expected in Assam and Meghalaya; on April 13 and 14, rain is expected in Arunachal Pradesh; on April 12, 13, and 14, rain is expected in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura; and on April 10, rain is expected in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Over Kerala, light widespread/widespread rainfall with thunderstorms/lightning is extremely likely.
Mahe will receive isolated/scattered rainfall during the next five days along with Tamilnadu-Puducherry-Karaikal, Lakshadweep, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and coastal and south interior Karnataka.
On April 11, very heavy rainfall is likely across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal; on April 13, and 14, heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala; and on April 11, heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu.
Heatwave conditions are expected to persist in west Rajasthan from April 12 to 14. From April 11, severe heatwave conditions are expected in scattered pockets over Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi; heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are also expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh (east and west) and west Madhya Pradesh.
Heatwave conditions are also likely in Jharkhand from April 10 to 12; in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu divisions on April 11, 12; and over Chhattisgarh on April 11.
