India is Pioneering Sustainable Textiles Contributing to Lesser Carbon Footprint and Promoting Circular Economy: Piyush Goyal

India is taking significant strides towards sustainable textiles, reducing its carbon footprint, and promoting a circular economy, according to the Union Minister of Textiles, Commerce and Industry and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal. Speaking at the 69th India International Garment Fair (IIGF) in Greater Noida, the Minister highlighted the innovative and attractive products produced by the Indian textile industry on a global scale.

Goyal emphasized the establishment of Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks across seven states in India. These parks aim to promote the country's textile sector by adopting a cluster-based approach to manufacturing and production, leading to reduced logistic costs and the creation of quality products with appropriate testing facilities. The strategic location of PM MITRA Parks will enable the units within them to cater effectively to both domestic and international demand.

Ensure that Indian consumers receive the best quality garments, the Minister called upon all stakeholders to prioritize quality standards. Goyal encouraged the industry to invest in product testing and comply with established quality norms. Additionally, he urged the youth to drive innovation and develop new technologies that would facilitate the production of superior-quality textile products. The Minister emphasized the need to enhance professionalism and quality within the textile sector.

Piyush Goyal also revealed that India is actively exploring Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPAs) and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with several countries. These agreements aim to expand the market size and provide exporters in the Indian textile sector with advantageous opportunities. By entering into these agreements, India aims to tap into new markets, boost exports, and foster growth in the textile industry.

Acknowledging the role of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), Goyal commended the organization for organizing the India International Garment Fair. The Minister recognized AEPC's efforts in creating livelihood opportunities for millions of people, supporting micro and small units, and encouraging new startups in the textile sector.

Goyal concluded his address by calling for the organization of the world's largest garment fair in the National Capital Region. This initiative aims to strengthen the trade fair ecosystem and foster engagement among industry players, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders.
