The Embassy of India in Brussels recently hosted the second edition of the Indian Seafood and Wine Tasting Event. Organized in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), the event celebrated India's finest culinary offerings. Over 120 distinguished guests, including business leaders, marine food importers, trade bodies, and diplomats, attended the event.

Ambassador of India to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union (EU), Saurabh Kumar, highlighted the event's role in strengthening cultural and trade ties. Sunil Barthwal, Secretary of the Department of Commerce, highlighted India’s growing partnership with the EU, particularly in the seafood and wine sectors. He invited attendees to explore India’s diverse and innovative food industry.

India’s global trade achievements were in the spotlight, with total exports reaching USD 433.09 billion in 2023–2024. Agricultural commodities contributed USD 33.24 billion, while marine exports accounted for USD 7.36 billion, making up 22% of agricultural exports. Over the past decade, India’s seafood exports have doubled, establishing the EU as India’s second-largest seafood market, with annual imports valued at USD 0.95 billion.

Guests enjoyed a curated menu featuring five varieties of premium Indian seafood: Vannamei shrimp, Black Tiger shrimp, Kingfish, Tilapia, and Squid. Paired with wines from India's growing vineyards, the event showcased India’s marine biodiversity and wine craftsmanship. Indian vineyards presented bold reds like Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, crisp whites such as Sauvignon Blanc, and sparkling wines, reflecting the country’s evolving wine industry.

With 500 EU-approved seafood firms and innovative wineries blending global expertise with indigenous traditions, India continues to strengthen its reputation for excellence in food and beverage exports.
