Indore will Plant Two Lakh Plants to Improve Air Quality by August 15

To improve air quality in Indore, the Madhya Pradesh government and several welfare groups on Sunday launched a "one plant per house" plantation program that aims to sow at least 2 lakh plants in Indore on Independence Day. 

The plantation drive was an initiative of Shankar Lalwani, MP of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Mahendra Hardia, a local Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The plantation plan is supported by Border Security Forces and City Municipal Corporation. People working towards betterment of the environment were also felicitated during the event.

MLA Hardia said “Indore has always remained a step ahead in protecting the environment. The biggest proof is Indore’s rank worldwide in the clean air program”.

MP Lalwani, Indore Municipal Company Commissioner Prathibha Pal, and BSF officials have planted at least 1,000 saplings. Lalwani said “We must all work to protect Mother Nature. We must all work together to protect our environment”. 

Pal told media, “We have set  a goal of planting at least 2 lakh trees in the city by 15 August. We will plant oxygen releasing plants in houses with limited space, such as tulsi, aloe vera, money plants, and we will plant fruit plants in houses with enough space.” 

To make the event successful, Indore Municipal Corporation, Border Security Forces, Forestry Department, media, DRP, social workers and entrepreneurs are working together. Event organizers plan to plant trees in BSF camps, Police Stations, Central partitions, Markets, School and university campuses, near rivers and drains and near public toilets. 

The municipal corporation is giving plants at Airports, Nehru Park, regional parks and Meghdoot Garden. These trees will be planted exclusively in air quality hotspots. 

Indore has been in news due to the growing pollution level in the city. The city has good road infrastructure and is connected to other parts of the state, which is good for urban development, but also leads to more air pollution.
