According to the apprentice outlook report for the hiring year July - December 2021, Companies in the agriculture and agrochemical industry will be hiring 13% more people for their internship or apprenticeship programmes in the coming second half of the hiring year 2021, which started from July 2021 and will extend till December 2021.

The Net Apprenticeship Outlook of the Second Hiring Year of 2021 also reported that Agriculture & Agrochemicals industry was the third most apprentice/ intern friendly sector in the second half of the hiring year of 2021.

In fact, 55 per cent of the employers that were contacted for this report from the Agriculture and Agrochemical industry were willing to employ new interns in this current Second half hiring year.

And it only trails behind the Engineering (68 Per cent) and the retail and automobiles and affiliates sectors(58 per cent). This itself shows the amount of growth that the agriculture sector has had in the past year even with the raging pandemic.

The apprenticeship prospects generated by TeamLease Skills University's National Employability Through Apprenticeship Program (NETAP) is India's biggest apprenticeship training programme which takes into consideration firms' ambitions to boost apprentice/ intern employment, minus those planning to reduce recruitment.

Companies in the agriculture industry, who have generated 1.77 lakh apprenticeship possibilities, climbed up by five positions in the second half from the ninth position in the first half, when 42 per cent of employers in the sector wanted to hire apprentices/Interns.

According to the research, which is done twice a year, 86 per cent of employers judged that the interns were more productive in the second half of this year, 43 per cent more than the previous hiring year.

Sumit Kumar, Vice President, NETAP TeamLease Skill University also told the business line that “The agricultural sector has experienced a lot of transformation over the last few years. Apprenticeships have been largely informal, but now the sector is becoming formal and organized in such recruitments”.

This bodes well for the agricultural sector as it will see more growth in the coming years.
