International Women’s Day: Ram Nath Kovind Conferred 29 Women with ‘Nari Shakti Puraskars’

Ram Nath Kovind conferred the ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ - 2020 and 2021 today on the occasion of International Women's Day.

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind conferred the ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ - 2020 and 2021, at a special ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, today. The award was conferred on 29 outstanding and exceptional women achievers for the years 2020 and 2021.

Twenty-eight awards - (14 each for the Year 2020 and 2021)- were presented to 29 women in recognition of their exceptional work towards the empowerment of women, especially the vulnerable and marginalized. 

To acknowledge women's achievements, the Ministry of Women and Child Development confers Nari Shakti Puraskar on women and institutions in recognition of their relentless service towards the cause of women empowerment and social welfare, and to celebrate women as game changers and catalyst of positive change in the society.  The award ceremony for the year 2020 could not be held in 2021 due to the prevalent situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The recipients of this award were from fields such as entrepreneurship, agriculture, innovation, social work, education and literature, linguistics, arts and crafts, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), disability rights, merchant navy and wildlife conservation. 

Social entrepreneur Anita Gupta, organic farmer and tribal activist Ushaben Dineshbhai Vasava, innovator Nasira Akhter, Intel-India head Nivruti Rai, down syndrome dancer Saylee Nandkishor Agavane, first woman snake rescuer Vanita Jagdeo Borade, and mathematician Neena Gupta are among the latest awardees. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with these winners on the occasion of International Women's Day, saying that the success of government measures, such as vocal for local, is based on women's contributions. 

PM Modi also stated that it is critical to guarantee that all women are included in family decision-making, which would occur as a result of their economic empowerment.
