Pulses have a long history since they have been a major source of human and animal nourishment for over ten thousand years. However, their significance was defined when, as a result of hunger, poverty, and food scarcity, the world's worry grew to reach the new aims to feed a mass population via a nutritious, hygienic, and appropriate diet.

With an annual output of more than 23 million metric tonnes, India is the world's leading producer of pulses. India produces 25% of the world's pulses, consumes 27% of them, and imports 14%. The country's pulse production has climbed from 140 lakh tonnes to 240 lakh tonnes in the previous five to six years, thanks to the persistent efforts of farmers, scientists, and the farmer-friendly policies of the central government. We must now consider future needs as well.
