Lawyer commits suicide in support of farmer protests
Amarjit Singh wrote that common people like farmers and labourers are feeling "defrauded" by the three "black" agricultural laws and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "listen to the voice of the people".
On the 27th of December, 2020, a lawyer from Punjab purportedly committed suicide, a couple of kilometers away from a site of a farmer's dissent at Delhi borders. Amarjit Singh belonging to the Jalalabad, Fazilka region of Punjab was found on the Tikri outskirt after apparently consuming poison and was taken to a clinic in Rohtak where doctors announced him dead on arrival, the police said.
In the suicide note, Mr. Singh said he was "giving up on his life" in the support of the farmers protest against the Government’s new farming laws with the goal that the centre is compelled to tune in to the voice of the individuals.
The letter said that ordinary citizens like farmers and daily wage workers are feeling "cheated" by the three "dark" agri laws and asked PM Modi to "tune in to the voice of the individuals". The police confirmed that they are confirming the genuineness of the suicide note, dated December 18.
A cop from Haryana's Jhajjar area said, "We have informed the deceased’s family members and once they arrive here, their statements will be recorded and further procedures will be led,". He added that they were informed by the authorities of the hospital regarding the suicide.
Prior, two suicides have been connected to the farmer’s protest mix, in progress at different border points of Delhi for longer than a month at this point. Sant Ram Singh, a 65-year-old Sikh priest supposedly passed on by suicide close to the Singhu outskirt protest site prior this month alleging that he "couldn't bear the agony of the farmers".
