Legendary Tigress 'Collarwali’, Mother of 29 Cubs, Dies in MP

"Collarwali," the well-known tigress of Madhya Pradesh's Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR), who earned the title of "supermom" after giving birth to 29 cubs, has died, according to officials.
Officials said the 17-year-old tigress, also known as T15, died on Saturday evening. She gave birth to 29 cubs in eight litters over an 11-year period, between 2008 and 2018, according to officials.
An official from the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) confirmed the tigress's death without providing any additional information. The tigress, who appeared frail due to old age, was last seen by PTR visitors on January 14.
Why is it called 'Collarwali'?
A tiger's average age, according to experts, is about 12 years. In March 2008, this female cub was radio-collared. She was radio-collared again in January 2010 after her previous radio collar stopped working. The tigress was later known as "Collarwali" or "T15 tigress," according to officials.
Collarwali had given birth to three cubs in May 2008, but they perished. The tigress gave birth to four cubs for the final time in December 2018, bringing her total number of cubs to 29.
According to officials, this number may be a record. According to the officials, 25 of the 29 cubs survived. Collarwali, who was born as one of four cubs to famous tigress T-7 in September 2005, gave birth to a litter of five cubs (four females and one male) on October 23, 2010, according to officials. Madhya Pradesh, with 526 big cats, was named the country's "tiger state" in 2018.
The carcass was discovered after forest officials launched a search after receiving information about a possible territorial fight in the area over the previous few days.
According to the All-India Tiger Estimation Report 2018, Madhya Pradesh had the most tigers of any state in the country, with 526. Pench alone has over 53 tigers in the reserve, with an additional 80 tigers (approximately) using it.
