State-run oil marketing companies in India for the preparation of the upcoming festive season, namely Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, have announced a significant increase in the retail prices of commercial LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) cylinders weighing 19 kilograms.

These price revisions, effective from November 1, 2023, mark the second price hike within the past two months for these commercial LPG cylinders.

With the most recent adjustment, the cost of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has risen to Rs 1,833 in Delhi, a notable increase from the previous price of Rs 1,731. In Mumbai, these cylinders will now be priced at Rs 1,785.50, in Kolkata at Rs 1,943, and in Chennai at Rs 1,999.50 per cylinder.

In comparison, during October, the prices for commercial LPG cylinders were Rs 1,684 in Mumbai, Rs 1,839.50 in Kolkata, and Rs 1,898 in Chennai after oil companies raised rates by Rs 209.

It is important to note that this price adjustment specifically applies to commercial LPG cylinders used in businesses and industries. In contrast, the prices for domestic LPG cylinders, which are primarily used for cooking purposes in households, have remained stable.

In Delhi, the cost of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder is unchanged at Rs 903. In Kolkata, it is priced at Rs 929, while in Mumbai and Chennai, domestic gas cylinders are available at Rs 902.5 and Rs 918.5, respectively.

Furthermore, it's worth mentioning that the prices of commercial LPG cylinders experienced a reduction in September when oil marketing companies lowered the prices by Rs 157.

During that period, these cylinders were sold at Rs 1522.50 in Delhi and Rs 1636 in Kolkata. In August, there was a price reduction of Rs 100 for commercial LPG gas cylinders.

Thus, commercial LPG cylinder prices have been subject to fluctuations over recent months, with the latest being an increase ahead of the festive season, while domestic LPG cylinder prices have remained stable. These adjustments can have significant implications for businesses and industries reliant on commercial LPG for various purposes.
