LPG Cylinder Subsidy: Check Who Can Benefit, New Rules and Rebate Provided

Last Monday, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an LPG subsidy, which will help millions of Indian households keep up with rising prices. The Centre's measure will largely benefit those who have signed up for the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

"This year, almost 9 crore Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries will receive a subsidy of Rs 200 each gas cylinder (up to 12 cylinders)." Our mothers and sisters will benefit from this. In a series of announcements on May 21, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman remarked, "This will have a revenue consequence of roughly Rs 6100 crore per year."

According to the notification, domestic and commercial cooking gas cylinders have seen a series of price increases in recent months. A 14.2-kg LPG cylinder costs Rs 1,003 in the national capital.

Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana would receive a subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder in their bank accounts as a result of the government's decision. Thanks to the subsidy, beneficiaries will pay Rs 803 per unit for a household LPG cylinder.

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched by the central government in 2016 to provide cooking gas to rural and low-income households.

According to the PMUY website, "the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG) launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) as a flagship scheme in May 2016 to make clean cooking fuels such as LPG available to rural and deprived households who were previously using traditional cooking fuels such as firewood, coal, cow-dung cakes, and so on."
