Schools to Teach Agriculture from Std VI!

The State Board of Maharashtra is going to begin vocational studies classes for students in 6th standard as they soon plan to launch the National Education Plan in the State Board Schools.

The aim is to help streamline the application of educational vocationalization.

Vocational Subjects such as vocational crafts, entrepreneurial skills, traditional and local arts, agriculture, or any other subject that exudes local expertise will be incorporated in Maharashtra State Board in coherence with the National Education Policy of 2020.

The National Education Policy has emphasized the incorporation of vocational subjects in the curriculum. The integration aims to be helpful to students who would be able to acquire an array of skills along with general education, preparing skilled individuals to meet the industry demands and internalizing a modern view of education.

The “Skill India Mission” is an initiative taken by the Government of India to introduce Skill Development Schemes in about 20 Central Ministries for millions of people which includes school students as well. The Mission is set to help streamline the application of educational vocationalization.

The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) has started the scheme of Vocationalisation of School Education under the centrally sponsored “Samagra Shiksha” Scheme in coherence with the Skill India Mission.

Samagra Shiksha Scheme is an initiative to provide vocational education to students of class 9th to 12th offered by National Skill Qualification Committee complaint courses.

The scheme also has provision to arrange vocational courses for students of VI to VIII to acquaint them with skills required for different kinds of occupation in various sectors which would help them choose streams of choice from an earlier level. NCERT to furnish detailed guidelines for vocational courses.

At the moment, the Samagra Shiksha covers around 55 job roles in a total of 19 sectors which are Agriculture, Apparel Made ups & Home Furnishing, Automotive, Banking Finance and Insurance Services, Beauty and Wellness, Construction, Electronics & Hardware, Healthcare, Information Technology / Information Technology Enabled Services, Media & Entertainment, Multi Skilling, Physical Education & Sports, Plumber, Power Retail, Security, Telecom, Tourism & Hospitality, Transportation Logistics & Warehousing.

The “Skill Hub Initiative” Scheme has been introduced by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in association with the Ministry of Education under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 3.0.
