Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra kept his promise by presenting a house to a Tamil Nadu woman who has been cooking and selling idlis for just Re 1 for the past 30 years. The woman is now known as 'Idli amma.'

On Mother's Day, Mahindra congratulated his staff for finishing the house in time to present it to Idli Amma. Idli Amma was dubbed by the business magnate as "an embodiment of a Mother's virtues: nurturing, caring, and selfless."

"A privilege to be able to support her & her work. Happy Mother’s Day to you all," Anand Mahindra tweeted.

Idli Amma, whose real name is Kamalathal, became famous in 2019 after 30 years of selling the cheapest idlis. Amma, unconcerned about her income, offered her services to people in need. The octogenarian has been operating her business out of a tiny shack.

Her considerate thinking inspired the chairman of the Mahindra Group at the time, who posted a video of her to provide assistance in recognition of her major commitment to society.

Mahindra took his staff to Amma's house and registered land in her name after learning that her top goal was a new home and workspace.

"Mahindra's Pungal visited my hut. It was overcrowded. I asked him to build me a new home. He said he'd look into it and come back to me "AMma Idli said.

Mahindra's team then proceeded to the registrar's office in Thondamuthur, Tamil Nadu, and acquired land for Idli Amma according to her specifications.

Anand Mahindra stated on Twitter, "Grateful to the Registration Office in Thondamuthur for helping us achieve our 1st milestone by swiftly registering the land," while sharing photographs of the elderly woman and authorities.

Mahindra also assisted in establishing a BharatGas connection for sustained LPG delivery after noticing Amma's use of a wood-burning stove.

Mahindra Lifespaces put together a house plan. After the site excavation, the grade beam was completed. As a next step, brickwork, roofing, and, the painting was completed and the house got ready.

"May you continue to rise and shine through the noble work of feeding the hungry," the Mahindra team wrote a message for Idli Amma.
