Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, has emphasized the need of promoting cow-rearing.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, has emphasized the need of promoting cow-rearing and making people aware of the economic possibilities of its products, especially cow dung.

On the first day of a two-day brainstorming session of the Madhya Pradesh cabinet in Pachmarhi on Saturday evening, Chouhan stated that measures will be made to make cow shelters self-sustaining, and 'Gobardhan' initiatives will be launched in various cities throughout the state.

"Arrangements will be made in the state to purchase cow dung.  New efforts will be started in Madhya Pradesh by analyzing cow conservation and protection experiments in other states, including Gujarat," he added.

People will be made aware about how to take care of stray cows and other animals.

“The common citizens will be motivated towards cow-rearing if they have an income from cow dung and urine. Concerted efforts will also be made to make 'gaushalas' (cow shelters) self-sustainable," Chouhan said.

The Gobardhan scheme would be implemented in other cities of the state following the successful operation of a Bio-CNG plant in Indore, MP, he added. The CM noted that logs manufactured from cow dung (rather than wood) are commonly utilized and stated that this would be encouraged further.

Various issues and innovative ideas for public welfare initiatives are being reviewed by the state cabinet during a two-day brainstorming session at Pachmarhi, the state's lone hill station in Narmadapuram district.

A ministerial group on cow protection, headed by state Home Minister Narottam Mishra, also gave a presentation during the session.
