M.S. Chauhan, Who Discovered World's First Cloned Buffalo Visited Krishi Jagran’s Digital Media Centre

M S Chauhan, Director, National Dairy Institute of India, visited Krishi Jagran’s All New Digital Media Centre in New Delhi. He Met all the employees here and discussed the latest trends in Animal Husbandry & Dairying. He was accompanied by V K Gaur, ex CMD of National Seeds Corporation Ltd.

He appreciated the efforts of the Founder & Editor in Chief of Krishi Jagran & Agriculture World, MC Dominic & his entire team, and wished them all the best for future.

M S Chauhan is a renowned scientist who among the team of scientists who developed World’s First Cloned Buffalo “Garima”. He has significantly contributed towards the development of In vitro fertilization (IVF) of embryos in cattle, buffalo and goat and yak; production of embryonic stem cell lines in buffalo; ovum pick up (OPU) - IVF technology in cattle and yak; cloning in buffalo using hand-guided cloning.

During his RMP tenure (over 3 and half years) as a Director, CIRG Makhdoom, and Project Co-ordinator of AICRP on goat, 4 technologies were developed including the development of Goat Semen Freezing Protocol and AI, and commercialized. 

Besides this, 6 new technologies were developed including NABL certified lab and some more technologies are in pipeline of commercialization.

Significant Achievements Of Dr Chauhan Include:

• Produced World’s First buffalo Cloned calf.

• Produced buffalo cloned calf “Garima-II” from embryonic stem cells.

• Produced India’s first OPU-IVF Sahiwal calf.

• Produced OPU-IVF yak in a collaborative project with NRC-Yak, Dirang (Arunanchal Pradesh)

• Produced reproducible cloned buffalo “Garima-II”, delivered Mahima and Karishma.

• Developed Hand guided cloning technology in goat and buffalo and in buffalo produced many superior genetically cloned buffalo calves (Garima, Shresth, Swarn, Purnima, Lalima, Rajat, Swarupa).

• Produced cloned calf “Deepasha” from endangered wild buffalo of Chhattisgarh.

• Produced 5 Embryonic Stem Cell lines in buffalo. These are the only lines available in the world, so far.

• Produced GFP expressed cloned transgenic Goat and Buffalo embryos.
