Petitioners had earlier told that even if NET is held in March 5, counselling can begin only after August 1.

The Supreme Court of India has finally dismissed petitions opposing the National Board of Examinations (NBE) decision to hold NEET PG 2023 on March 5.

MBBS doctors have requested that the entrance exam be postponed because of a lack of preparation time and a five-month gap between the exam and counselling dates. Live updates on the NEET PG 2023 postponement request.

On behalf of the petitioners, Senior Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan said that the time between the internship deadline and the exam is never more than two months.

Petitioners previously said that even if NEET is held on March 5, counselling will not commence until after August 11 - the internship cut-off deadline - since the certificate must be presented during the admission procedure.

Aishwarya Bhati, Additional Solicitor General of India, stated that the NBE intends to have counselling in July rather than wait until the August 11 deadline for internship completion and that individuals without certificates will be permitted to participate provisionally.

She went on to say that roughly 2.03 lakh students applied during the first NEET PG application session and barely 6,000 in the second.

She noted that the demand to postpone NEET PG is made by a minority.

On Sunday, addressing the 19th Sir Ganga Ram Oration, Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud noted that the "sheer quantity of litigation in courts" around NEET is "evidence that there is a need for change in medical education."

He was speaking on the topic, 'A prescription for Justice: Quest for justice and equity in healthcare'.
