NIUM to Help in Integration of Ayush Healthcare Services with Modern Medicines: Govt.
Ayush Minister stated that the National Policy on Health envisions, among other things, mainstreaming Ayush in healthcare and integrating these systems in areas such as education and research at all levels of healthcare delivery.
Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ayush, Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, today inspected the newly constructed campus of the National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM) in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. NIUM, Ghaziabad is a satellite institute of the National Institute of Unani Medicine, Bangaluru, and will be the first of its kind in India's northern region.
V.K. Singh, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation, and officials from the Ministry of Ayush accompanied Sonowal.
On this occasion, the Ministers stated that the National Policy on Health envisions, among other things, mainstreaming Ayush in healthcare and integrating these systems in areas such as education and research at all levels of healthcare delivery.
He stated that the Ministry of Ayush has taken numerous steps to encourage R&D and innovation, as well as to establish premier institutes for education and research in Unani Medicine. "I am confident that this Unani institute will popularise the Ayush system and meet the needs of the country's northern region," he added.
On March 1, 2019, the foundation stone for the National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM) in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, was laid. This Institute will train professionals in various fields of Unani Medicine.
This Institute will have 14 departments and will offer postgraduate and doctoral programmes in various fields of Unani Medicine. The Institute will also concentrate on fundamental aspects of Unani medicine and practices, such as drug development, quality control, safety evaluation, and scientific validation. The Institute will set benchmarks in education, health care, and research.
The National Institute of Unani Medicine, Ghaziabad, is being built at a cost of Rs 381 crores and will also serve as an international collaboration centre for global Unani Medicine promotion and research. The Institute will play a critical role in establishing bilateral and multilateral collaboration with internationally renowned universities and research organisations.
