Nivar Cyclone Makes Landfall Bringing Heavy Rainfall in Puducherry, Chennai; Emergency Numbers Announced

Nivar Cyclone, which has weakened from a "very severe cyclonic storm" to "severe cyclonic storm", had made landfall near Marakkanam in Tamil Nadu, 30 kilometer north of Puducherry at around 2:30 am. Over 2 lakh people have been evacuated in the coastal regions that had been bracing for the cyclone. Meanwhile heavy rainfall continues in Tamil Nadu and neighboring areas.

The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced crisis emergency numbers and along with that, control rooms are also being set up in each zone because of the forthcoming Cyclone Nivar. 

As per reports, if there should arise an occurrence of any crisis, 1913 complementary crisis number can be called for any help with respect to the Nivar Cyclone. A report by the Times of India introduced a zone-wise rundown of crisis numbers that individuals can use in the midst of hardship.

Between all this, many places in Chennai, on Wednesday morning, reported a ton of water-logging because of the intense rainfall in the city. The India Meteorological Department, on Wednesday, likewise affirmed that Nivar has now transformed into a serious cyclonic storm and would before long be escalating further into an exceptionally strong cyclonic storm. 

The IMD in its morning announcement on Wednesday, stated, "It is probably going to escalate further into an extreme cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours. It is probably going to move northwestwards and cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry seaside areas between Karaikal and Mamallapuram around Puducherry during middle of night of 25th November and early long stretches of 26th November 2020 as an extreme cyclonic storm with a breeze speed of 120-130 kmph blasting upto 145 kmph."
